5 Things to Consider When Planning A Graduation Party
Be it graduation from high school or college, you’re about to walk across the stage and get your diploma, and that means it’s time to celebrate. You did it! (Or, perhaps, your child, spouse, or friend did it and you want to throw the perfect celebration for them. Either way, we’ve got you covered.) Whether you’re planning the celebration for an entire school or just your closest friends and family, it can be hard to know where to start. Here at NOAH’S, we want to help you pull off a party with as little stress as possible (it’s not finals after all). Here are the top 5 things you need to keep in mind when planning a graduation party.
Food is an essential part of every celebration. If you’re planning something low key, consider making a few batches of your mom’s famous caramel brownies. Keep it easy, simple, and delicious. If you’re wanting the party to be a little bigger, baking 15 dozen brownies might be a little overwhelming. In that case, we recommend hiring a caterer. Don’t worry, this doesn’t have to be an expensive five-star meal kind of catering. Check with your favorite restaurants and, chances are, they offer something within your budget. You can even bring in a food truck or a bunch of fast food. Whatever works for you and your budget.
You can’t do graduation without cake. Local bakeries can create beautiful, sweet creations customized to your class and big enough for all of your guests or enough cupcakes to keep people satisfied even if they come back for seconds or thirds. The biggest thing to keep in mind when planning your food is how many people will be attending. You want to make sure you can feed everyone, of course. Another important thing to consider is how to bring the food to the people. Some venues will require you to work exclusively with their catering, but here at NOAH’S, we are proud of our open vendor policy. If you like them, you can bring them in.
A graduation party is your chance to step it up a little in your celebration. Your parents’ living room just isn’t gonna cut it anymore. Instead, host your party at an event venue. Don’t worry, it’s probably more affordable than you think. Our first tip is to book your party on a weekday (Hey, you’re going to be graduated, you won’t have to worry about school the next day anymore). This will save you a lot of money and also make it easier to find a date that isn’t already booked. Second, split the price up amongst all of the attendees. Divide the price up between you and your friends or ask guests to purchase tickets. The more guests, the easier it becomes and the benefits of a venue like NOAH’S will be well worth it. Another option is to hold a combined party celebrating you and your friends. They are graduating too, why not party together? This will allow you to split up the cost and have one unforgettable bash rather than multiple, smaller celebrations.
At a dedicated venue, you will get privacy and staff to help be sure that everything goes smoothly. It also means that you can let the party go loud and late without worrying about upsetting your neighbors. Finally, we have options with the perfect amount of space for you. If you want something just between you and your closest friends, our small party rooms will fit great. If you want the bash of the century, you will have plenty of space in the Main Hall.
Music is a must for your party. A DJ can get the party started and set the perfect tone. To find a DJ, try talking to your school about who they have contracted for dances or check out our local edition of MOMENTS Magazine for our preferred vendors. MOMENTS is available on our website on each location’s page. If you aren’t sure if a DJ is right for you, keep it live and local instead. There are plenty of students at your school with a band that would probably love the opportunity to get out of the garage. Line up multiple acts and have them set up on our patented, elevated stage in the main hall, which will create an unforgettable party atmosphere. If you are looking to cut costs, you can also hook up a laptop or phone and play from your own music collection.
Take the party to the next level by bringing in more than just music and providing some fun games for your guests. We’ve compiled a few of our favorite graduation themed games to give you some inspiration.
- Graduation Cap Ring Toss
- For this game, you’ll need glass soda bottles and a few graduation caps. Set the glass bottles up in rows and create a line a few feet away for players to stand behind. The goal here is to toss the cap and get it to land on one of the soda bottles. Prizes are up to you. Winners can either keep the soda bottles that they land on, or you can have other options such as candy or gift cards.
- Shredded Homework Scavenger Hunt
- All that this game requires is a shredder, a small school-themed item, and for guests to bring their stacks of now unneeded papers. Have guests ceremoniously leave behind the dreaded homework by shredding it and adding it to the pile on the floor. Once everyone is finished, have guests leave the room while someone buries an item in the pile, be it a letter “A”, a graduation cap, or whatever else you decide. Invite everyone back inside and start a countdown. Once it hits 0, it’s a free for all to dig through the discard homework for the item. The first person to find it gets a prize.
- Textbook Stack
- This is a competition to see who got the most gains from carrying around all their textbooks. The only supplies for this game are all those weighty books you won’t be needing anymore. You decide the contest (push-ups, squats, or whatever) and see who can do the most. Each person does one of the exercises with the textbooks on their back or in their arms, and after each round, add another textbook to the stack. The person who lasts the longest is the winner.
One of the biggest benefits of hosting your party at a venue like NOAH’S is that your space will already look nice without needing to put in any extra effort. However, if you do decide to add a few extra personalized touches, you can take it to the next level. Light up the room in your school colors with our customizable lighting, or fill the space with streamers or balloons.
You (or your loved one) made it through all those homework and tests, and that means it’s time to party. Here at NOAH’S, we would love to help you pull off the best graduation party possible. Give us a call today to find out why NOAH’S is the perfect place to celebrate.
