7 Family-Friendly Party Games That Are Actually Fun

Party games are notorious for being either too “adult” or too “kiddish.” Games like Monopoly, Catchphrase, and Uno are fun for small parties, but even they can get dull. What do you do for parties of all sizes with all ages? Family reunions, birthday parties, holiday parties, and casual gatherings need more than food and chatting to be successful, so we’ve collected some games that get everyone smiling!
Aren’t quite sure where to begin with party games? We can help! A wide of variety of parties are celebrated at NOAH’S Event Venue, and we know what it takes to entertain the masses. If your planning for an upcoming gathering, keep in mind that NOAH’S Event Venue has the space, technology, tables, and price to accommodate your party or event. Save your carpet from a queso tragedy, and party at NOAH’S using the following awesome and family-friendly party game ideas! While I, myself, am a fan of board games, we’re keeping this list to party games that don’t need the losable cards and game pieces.
Giants, Wizards, Elves
This is a zany game that requires a gung-ho attitude and ends in uproarious laughter. Think Rock, Paper, Scissors, but, like, super extra. Head’s up! This game requires a bit of space, so consider taking the party out of your living room and into a larger event space like NOAH’S Main Hall. Okay, here’s the rules (more or less): Divide all players into two even teams, each team will whisper and consult among themselves over which character they will be: Giant, Wizard, or Elf. After each team has made their selection, line up about six feet apart from each other and shout “go!” At that moment, each team will act out their chosen character. If your character beats the other team’s, then try to grab as many people as possible! The team that steals all the other players wins! Pecking order is as follows: The Giant smashes the Elf, The Elf beats the Wizard, and the Wizard zaps the Giant. For more detailed instructions go here.
This game is fun, super easy, and something you can do throughout the night while munching on snacks and discussing, I don’t know, politics or something. All party-goers will start with a sheet of 10 stickers. Throughout the event, you must get rid of all your stickers by sticking them on other people. If you get caught, then the other person gets to stick one of their stickers on you! The winner is the first person with an empty sticker sheet.
This is one of my all-time favorite party games, and I’ve played it in groups as small as four people and as big as thirty! Hand everyone a piece of paper and a pen. Each person will write a funny phrase, famous person’s name, storybook title, or whatever and pass their paper to the left. That person will then try to illustrate what was written, fold the paper over the sentence (leaving the picture still visible) and pass it to the person on their left. That person will then try to caption the picture, fold the paper over the picture so their caption is still visible, and then pass it again. Keep passing and drawing this way until you run out of room on the paper. Unfold everything and laugh about just how crazy and distorted the phrase gets by the end! This game is easier with tables, so pick a party center that provides them. Ahem, NOAH’S. Yes, we provide plenty. Get multiple games going with all the tables we can provide. Seriously.
Psychiatrist/Strange Disease Diagnosis
Another of my personal favorites, Psychiatrist (also known as Strange Disease Diagnosis) is a low-key but fun theatrical game where one person, the doctor, leaves the room and the rest of the group decides on some kind of disease or illness that will need to be diagnosed like an allergy to the color yellow or the inability to straighten your left leg. When the doctor returns, they must ask individuals questions trying to guess what the group’s disease could possibly be. Check out this site for more detailed instructions.
Similar yet simpler than the popular card game The Game of Things, Things is a fun get-to-know-you game modifiable for all ages. One person will be “it” and say a statement with a thing as an answer, for example, “Things that make me smile,” or “Things that you shouldn’t say to a bus driver.” Everyone writes their answer on a piece of paper, the person who’s “it” collects them, and as a group, you try and guess who wrote what. Read the full instructions here.
Partner in Pen
This is a fun and quirky game that requires just a bit of preparation beforehand. Everyone finds a partner and each pair is given a bag full of odd objects. Each partnership sits back-to-back, one rifles through the bag and tries to describe the object without naming it or saying what it’s used for. The other person tries to draw the object based on their partner’s description. If they draw the correct object, they get to move on to the next one! First partnership through with their bag wins!
Jackbox Games do require a purchase, but they’re very fun for groups of all sizes and all ages. Purchase the game on your console or PC, and hook it to a TV nearby so everyone can see. NOAH’S has all the technology needed to accomplish this in every location and a staff member nearby to help with technical difficulties if any arise! Each person will use their own smartphone or tablet and go to jackbox.tv (this part is free!). They will then enter the room code displayed on the TV and get ready to play! There are a variety of games to choose from like trivia games, funny caption contests, and more. No matter what game you pick, you’ll have your guests doubled over in fits of laughter.
Party games aren’t just for kids. If you have a fun event or party coming up, try out these games for lots of laughs and a night to remember! Remember that you’ll need a space away from your oh-my-goodness-I-just-cleaned-this-place house with lots of room for everyone to have a good time! Take advantage of NOAH’S open vendor policy and make your next big family game night a potluck in an inviting party-friendly event venue.
