7 Tips to Make Your Indoor Wedding a Bit More “Outdoor”
I remember my friend’s highschool-aged son in black basketball shorts and a button-down plaid shirt clinging to a pole of my oh-so-vintage carnival canopy. It’s not the sweetest memory of my wedding day… or the prettiest, but I couldn’t control the weather! Wind and rain tried their hardest to destroy all the hard work I’d poured into the event. My carnival-themed reception began in soggy ruins: sopping cake, windblown cotton candy spread across the lawn, my husband’s aunt praying on the bathroom floor. Yeah, not good. Outdoor weddings can be absolutely stunning and the perfect fit for some brides, but for the few of us that are nervous about unyielding elements, an indoor wedding is a bit safer. Luckily, couples can have the best of both worlds by crafting a natural outdoor vibe indoors.
We see a lot of extraordinary weddings here at NOAH’S, and many couples have crafted a perfect outdoor-indoor harmony—balancing the safety of an indoor wedding and the refreshing elegance of an outdoor event. We’ve gathered together seven tips to help you dance the night away under a roof while maintaining that outdoor charm.
1. Pump Up the Greenery in Bouquets
Roses are red, violets are blue, but weave in green for the outdoors to come through! Okay, so I’m not a poet. But I do know that twisting some myrtle, ivy, ferns, or eucalyptus into the bridal bouquet can up the outdoor vibe of the entire event.

2. Add Real Flowers to Your Tiery-Eyed Friend (I mean “tiered friend.”…Cake, I mean cake)
Frosting and fondant are nice, but fresh real flowers are organic, natural, and stunning. Your wedding cake presents the perfect opportunity to highlight your personality and style. If you’re craving a breezy outdoor wedding, show that in the cake! Bring the flowers inside and avoid an unforgiving sun that will melt away the buttercream or an even less-forgiving rain that might saturate all that tasty vanilla in muddy water.

3. Use Leafy Vines and Lush Garlands in Table Decor
The quickest and most obvious way to bring the outdoors into your indoor wedding is to, well, bring the outdoors into your indoor wedding. Adding leaves, vines, garlands, and flowers around the venue is a perfect way to play up that outdoor wedding feel. Nothing says outdoor like lush greenery and botanical bliss.

4. Take Advantage of Natural Colors
The color scheme of your wedding can determine the feel of the entire event. Natural greens, tans, and grays can transform a venue into a nature-esque environment! So, pick your favorite outdoor spot, note the colors, and accentuate them throughout the event.

5. Utilize a Rustic Wood Display
What’s woodsier than wood? If you’ve always wanted that fairytale forest wedding, take the forest inside with a rustic wood display. Grab a set of wooden napkin rings, a mossy bark cardholder, or take some inspiration from one of NOAH’S couples and have guests sign a beautifully natural piece of wood in lieu of the traditional guestbook! Implementing wooden elements into your nature-inspired wedding is simple and exceptional.

6. Use Lighting to Simulate a Starry Night Sky
During my outdoor reception, the sun set and the warmth went with it! The dance floor was bare, and guests kept trickling away to find warmth elsewhere. But the stars? Yeah, those were dazzling. Fortunately, effective lighting can create that starry dazzle inside and away from the elements. String lights, Edison bulbs, bistro lights, and lanterns are just a few ways to simulate that nighttime glow throughout your event. Oh, and helpful tip: draped organza can help capture this outdoor night vibe too! Because NOAH’S offers these lighting accents and the ability to bring in your own, the sky isn’t just the limit at our locations, it’s the ceiling!

Here at NOAH’S we see a lot of stunning arches and backdrops that accent the big “I Do” moment. Adding flowers, trees, and vines is the perfect way to capture the outdoors during the main event.
